how to get the perfect, french hairstyle

every time a new year comes around it seems that everyone is ready for a change. goals are set, resolutions written, gym memberships purchased. a change in appearance is not an uncommon inclination in the new year, and what better way to spruce things up than with a change in hairstyle.

the images below are giving me some major inspiration, and they all seem to give off that effortless ‘i just rolled out of bed’ look that french girls have nailed while still looking like a total babe. keep reading for some tips to recreate this hairstyle on your own. which one is your fave?

  1. dry shampoo. french women do not wash their hair every day, but using some dry shampoo every morning really helps to keep your hair looking fresh plus it gives great texture. my favorite french dry shampoo to use is Klorane, available at Ulta. but other great brands in the US are Dove, Batiste or Aussie.
  2. go easy on the brushing. french women have really perfected that perfectly messy and effortless look. depending on your hair type, i normally try to only brush my hair right before i wash it and will occasionally use a brush or comb just to fix my part or touch up any big tangles.
  3. embrace your texture. again, depending on your hair type do your best to not use too much heat or product on your hair to let any waves or texture come through. again, this is not possible for every hair type, but french girls really know how to embrace their look and are more confident in showing off what is more unique about their appearance.
  4. don’t be afraid to sleep on wet hair. sleeping on wet hair really helps to get that tousled and messy look without needing to spend too much time/product styling your hair.
